Back up your accounts in Microsoft Authenticator

Authenticator can store more than Microsoft accounts. Backup saves the account list to the cloud so a replacement phone does not start empty. You still confirm each account the first time you use it.

1. Open Authenticator and sign in with the personal Microsoft account you want to own the backup.
2. Go to Settings and turn on Cloud backup (iCloud on iPhone, or the Microsoft account backup on Android).
3. On the new phone, install Authenticator, choose Restore from backup, and sign in with that same account.
4. Open an account that shows action required and complete its recovery steps. Backup does not copy the device PIN.

If backup was off before you reset the old phone, the accounts cannot be reconstructed from Authenticator. Use the recovery codes or backup methods you saved for each service.
