Get better answers from Copilot
A useful prompt names the goal, the audience, and the limits. “Write something about the trip” is harder to answer well than a prompt that says who it is for and how long it should be.
A simple pattern
- Goal: what the finished text or list should do.
- Context: facts Copilot cannot guess, pasted in or attached.
- Constraints: length, tone, language, or what to leave out.
- Check: ask Copilot to list assumptions before the final draft.
- Start with the outcome. “Give me a 150-word status update for a non-technical sponsor.”
- Paste the source notes under the request, or attach the file.
- Say what to avoid. “Do not invent dates or ticket numbers.”
- If a detail looks wrong, reply with the correction instead of rephrasing the whole prompt.
Copilot can sound sure and still be wrong. Check names, numbers, and steps before you send the result to someone else.
